For myself, I use 4 cups of water. There is a four cup measurement on the coffee pot, but when you go to pour the water in the machine, the maker starts off at 6 cups and you cannot see the water that was poured inside. The filter that comes with this product is narrow towards the bottom... it’s not an even circular coffee filter which makes the filter hard to clean. The filter is all stained! Makes ok coffee. Looks good in my kitchen but it doesn't stop dripping when you pour a cup before it finishes which I learned the hard way. I figured all drip coffee makers stopped the brewing when pouring a cup these days so I went back and read the directions. Says you can remove the pot at anytime without getting burned.
