Although it lacks on/off controls, it does the job and provides a means to introduce oxygen to roots in whatever medium is used. Its not an incredibly strong pump but it does a fine job and is surely better than a simple aquarium pump. Operational noise is also extremely low. You would not hear it on if you were near a floor fan (It's that quiet). But does the job very well.
