The spoons are fixed but there is extra grip and a stopper at the end to prevent the built up utensils from falling from your hand **Q: Can you just buy forks?** A: The sets I purchased had forks and spoons. **Q: My grandfather has essential tremors that are pretty severe. He is 85. Would these be very beneficial?** A: Possibly. However, I found them to be lighter weight than I had expected and I returned them. I also have essential tremors. **Q: Can they be used for toothbrushes?** A: This set is a fork, knife, soup spoon, and teaspoon..... so in short, no.
