Steve does a great job of stuffing a ton of essential theory into less than 100 pages that should make most academics jealous. His explanations are what you'd expect from a practitioner. In additon, I really liked that he provides a lot of useful exercises about how to go beyond either the academic knowledge OR focus on shapes of scales and chords to shift the focus into the experiential domain. Some people may scoff at his descriptions, thinking that they are too fluffy or "New Age" to be practical, but this is something that they'd be very wrong about. I use many of the techniques that he describes with my students and can report that they do indeed work. This is a book that you not only need to read, but need to do the exercises over and over again. The good part is that they're not complex exercises and they're fun! Take Steve's advice: Do the exercises and spend time with it, don't just do the minimum and rush to get to the next part.
